Description
École Marie-Esther is located in Shippagan, a coastal town of about 2,600 residents in the Acadian Peninsula. French language and Francophone culture are at the heart of this northeastern New Brunswick region. The area offers fresh air and wide-open spaces. Municipal facilities include a fitness centre with a swimming pool, a public library, a sports arena, and an ice rink. The main industries are fishing, peat harvesting, and tourism development. Shippagan is known as the “commercial fishing capital of New Brunswick” and is also home to one of the three campuses of the Université de Moncton.
Academic offerings include a variety of trades courses such as welding, mechanics, carpentry, design, as well as sewing, food preparation, music, and visual arts. Students are very active and involved in various extracurricular activities including geocaching, improv, environmental committees, and bingo. The school’s sports teams, known as Les Vikings, compete in regional and provincial tournaments.
The school’s motto is Navigating Toward Knowledge. As a community school, Marie-Esther has developed numerous partnerships and believes in fostering a strong sense of identity while remaining open to new ideas and cultures. The school also promotes an inclusive educational approach that encourages acceptance and participation for all.
