Description
Polyvalente Alexandre-J.-Savoie is located in Saint-Quentin, a small community in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in northwestern New Brunswick. It is also known as the Maple Capital of Atlantic Canada, and the abundance of maple trees makes for a spectacular display of colours in the fall. The Mount Carleton Provincial Park, the highest peak in the Maritime Provinces, is home to 100 types of birds and 30 other species of mammals. Saint-Quentin also hosts a famous annual Western Festival, featuring a rodeo with cowboys from across Canada, and country music shows.
Highlights
The Polyvalente A.-J.-Savoie encourages students to develop not only their athletic skills through various activities, clubs and sports teams, but their artistic talents as well.
There are several musical and dance groups, and a large-scale production is entered in the annual provincial youth theatre festival. People from the community and many local businesses play a key role in enriching education and students are guided in developing an entrepreneurial spirit. With stained-glass making integrated into the grade 9 art class, a micro-business was also set up to create small pieces to promote French culture and the maple sugar industry during the World Acadian Congress, an international event that took place in the area in 2014.
The school’s mission is to develop responsible, well-rounded individuals, who take pride in their French language and culture and retain a lifelong interest in learning.
