Alain Poitras has been involved in education for over thirty years. He has been Director of Life-Career Development and Entrepreneurial Community School (ECE) at the District scolaire francophone Sud in New Brunswick since 2016. He has also been a member of the district's management team since June 2020. He is recognized as one of the great pioneers of the entrepreneurial community school movement in New Brunswick.
During his career, Mr. Poitras served as vice-principal of École Monseigneur Lang in Drummond. He then went on to head the École Régionale de Saint-André. During his time at Saint-André Regional School, he spearheaded the L'école au cœur de sa communauté project. Thanks to the success of the 5 French-language schools involved in the pilot project, as well as that of various initiatives in the English-language sector, the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development made it a province-wide project in 2007, calling it L'école communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick. That's how Mr. Poitras came to work for the development of French-language community schools. He was director of this program at the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Francophone Sector, from its inception until his arrival at DSF-S in 2016.
Originally from the rural community of Saint-André, in northwestern New Brunswick, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from the Université de Moncton, as well as a Master's degree in Education, majoring in School Administration, also from the Université de Moncton.
